Mum Zab Fermented Fish Sauce 350ml

Mum Zab Fermented Fish Sauce 350ml

Mum Zab Nam Pla Ra (หม่ำแซ่บ น้ำปลาร้า, pronounced mâm sâap nám bplaa râa) is a fermented freshwater fish sauce — a product that is fundamentally different from regular Thai fish sauce (Nam Pla, น้ำปลา). While Nam Pla is made from saltwater anchovies and produces a clear, refined saline condiment, Nam Pla Ra (น้ำปลาร้า) is derived from Pla Ra (ปลาร้า) — a traditional Isan fermented freshwater fish paste — and carries a much stronger, more pungent, and deeply umami flavour profile. It is an essential ingredient in northeastern Thai (Isan) cuisine, used to season Som Tum (ส้มตำ, papaya salad), Larb (ลาบ), and various Isan dipping sauces and soups. The liquid form (Nam Pla Ra) is more convenient than the paste form of Pla Ra, making it easier to measure and incorporate into dishes. The 350ml bottle is a practical household size for regular Isan cooking.
