Grow Your Own Extra Fragrant Tang Oh — Richer, More Aromatic & Intensely Flavourful

For those who love the distinctive aroma of garland chrysanthemum, Minara Garland Chrysanthemum Seeds No. 1113A is the premium choice — a specially selected variety with an even richer, more intensely fragrant aroma than the standard No. 1113. Producing lush, aromatic greens with a bold herbal flavour, this extra fragrant tang oh (ตั้งโอ๋) is the go-to variety for hot pot enthusiasts and serious Asian cooking lovers in Australia.

Why You'll Love Growing These

  • 🌿 Extra fragrant variety — richer, more intense aroma than the standard variety (No. 1113)
  • Fast-growing — ready to harvest in as little as 30–40 days from sowing
  • ✂️ Cut-and-come-again — harvest regularly and the plant keeps producing throughout the cool season
  • 🌸 Beautiful dual-purpose plant — edible greens plus cheerful yellow daisy-like flowers if left to bloom
  • 🇹🇭 Premium hot pot variety — the extra fragrant tang oh prized for Thai shabu shabu, Japanese sukiyaki, and Lao jaew hon

How to Grow

Sow seeds directly into well-drained, fertile soil or seed-raising mix in a sunny to partly shaded position. Scatter seeds thinly and cover lightly with fine soil. Water gently and keep consistently moist. Garland chrysanthemum thrives in cool conditions — ideal for Australian autumn, winter, and spring gardens (March–October). Harvest young shoots and leaves when 15–25cm tall for the best flavour — the extra fragrant variety is most aromatic when harvested young. Harvest before flowering for the most tender, intensely flavoured greens.

In the Kitchen

The extra fragrant No. 1113A variety is especially prized for hot pot — add to Thai shabu shabu, Japanese sukiyaki, or Lao jaew hon in the last minute of cooking for a powerfully fragrant, aromatic finish that elevates the entire dish. Use in Thai clear soups for a bold herbal note. Stir-fry briefly with garlic and oyster sauce for a quick, intensely flavourful side. Toss young leaves raw into salads for a bold, herbal flavour. Also wonderful in Korean jeon (savoury pancakes) or Japanese tempura for a crispy, aromatic treat.
